Minerals For Sale:

Mooreite Specimen

This is a more detailed listing of a mineral from the main category page, Daylight Specimens of the Franklin-Sterling Hill Area.

Fluorescent minerals have their own pages, starting at this link.

For an explanation of abbreviations used, please see our guide to mineral sizes.

Sterling Hill
Ogdensburg, New Jersey

(Type Locality)

Platy, crystalline mooreite on a matrix of calcite, altered zincite, sussexite, and probably other minerals.  In other words, this looks like North Orebody material, which is correct for mooreite.

Like the mcgovernite, this is a species of which we do not have any more examples in stock, and we may not get any more in the near future.  If you're looking for this rare species, don't wait.

Groups:  Sulfates
Size:  approx. 3 3/4" x 2 3/8".  The specimen is wedge-shaped;  thickness about 1 1/4" tapering down to a thin edge.
Ship. wt.  1.2 lbs
