Ogdensburg, New Jersey
A cabinet specimen of shiny, ruby-red zincite with pinkish willemite / tephroite, black franklinite, and white calcite.
The willemite forms exsolution lines in and around grains of tephroite. The willemite is visible as fluorescent green in SW UV, but it's not intensely bright. The calcite is fl. red (also SW). The display fl. is also fairly good, but this is more of a daylight specimen.
The zincite has a platy habit, which we always considered to be the best material. Although there are no individual crystals, the material is crystalline in character.
Both sides are displayable and have comparable amounts of zincite. Here is the other side of the specimen:
Actual specimen weight is about 4 lbs; a dense, heavy specimen like this will require about 1 lb of packaging and packing materials to cushion adequately for shipping.
Groups: Oxides (Zincite, Franklinite), Silicates (Tephroite, Willemite), Carbonates (Calcite)
Size: Approx. 4 1/2" x 4" x 2"
Ship. wt. 5 lbs
