Minerals For Sale:

Rhodonite (#CR325) with Willemite "eye" and Andradite

This is a more detailed listing of a mineral from the main category page, Daylight Specimens of the Franklin-Sterling Hill Area.

Fluorescent minerals have their own pages, starting at this link.

For an explanation of abbreviations used, please see our guide to mineral sizes.

Rhodonite with Willemite and Andradite
Franklin Mine
Franklin, New Jersey

Massive / compact-crystalline rhodonite with massive, honey-colored andradite garnet and an "eye" of semi-translucent willemite. A "mine-fresh"-type specimen with no weathered surfaces.  This is from an old collection and was probably direct from the mine, which closed in 1954.

The willemite is a mixture of purplish ("grape willemite") and gray-green in daylight.  It is of course fluorescent brilliant green in short-wave UV.  There are also very small amounts of calcite (fl. red) which are not really noticeable in daylight.

Groups:  Silicates.
Specimen Size:  approx. 4 x 3.5 x 1.5 inches
Ship. wt. 2.5 lbs
